About Us
We are located approximately 20 miles southwest from the historic town of Wickenburg. The ranch itself is located on 40 acres in the middle of the famous Sonoran Desert. It is completely surrounded by Bureau of Land Management land effectively extending it’s borders to many miles. The previous owner had attempted to mine gold at this location and did have minor success but sadly he had to close the operation. Maybe one of our guests will find the elusive gold that the last guy missed.

New ownership came in and decided to take advantage of this unique jewel in the desert and let it fulfill its destiny as a top tier retreat. After extensive upgrading the site has become a world class facility while keeping its original charm as a shining example of the old west. In a very short time Vulture Ranch has become an exclusive destination for the discerning seeking a unique location.
The ranch is characterized by a warm and welcoming atmosphere featuring original art pieces, beautifully landscaped grounds, uniquely decorated rooms, luxurious swimming pool, a private shooting range and a one-of-a-kind spa. The overall feeling of privacy (a disappearing concept) is very strong with the soothing sounds of the waterfall and the amazing quiet of the desert to calm you into blissful submission of leaving the world behind.
An Eco Resort
The ranch also boasts what may be one of the largest off grid solar installations in Arizona making this amazing place completely energy independent and one of the most eco-friendly places in the western U.S.
This ranch embraces idea of the Vulture because we know Vultures are the ultimate in environmental protection. Vultures, which are found all over the world, clean the carrion which helps prevent the spread of disease by getting rid of unwanted parasites and bacteria. In honor of the fact that the Vulture is a key link in the circle of life and this planet we decided that

Wickenburg Today
This entire Wickenburg area of Arizona is and has been a highly productive gold mining area. Many abandoned gold mines dot the area and there are numerous active gold mining operations.
This town celebrates it’s history with numerous art installations around the town. These include life sized bronze sculptures on sidewalks around town, sculptured rattlesnakes and giant tarantula spiders make you take pause as you walk the streets.
There are numerous murals depicting historic scenes from the old west on many of the buildings and there are the delightful street lamps with cowboy hats. Today, the town celebrates its cowboy heritage with a proudly displayed entry sign that reads “Team roping capitol of the world” The town swells to three or four times its size every year when the roping season arrives.
Team roping is a popular rodeo event involving two cowboys riding on horseback capturing a calf with ropes. People from all over the U.S. come with their horses to display their skills and compete in a demanding skill sport. There are also numerous local rodeos during that October – March season. This annual phenomenon is a nostalgic and fun journey into what helped build the American west and a chance to see true Americans patriotically living and celebrating our cowboy roots.

Vulture Mine / Vulture City
Located in the Vulture Mountains dominated by Vulture Peak and just two miles from Vulture Ranch, the Vulture Mine was a highly successful gold mine. The mine was discovered by Henry Wickenburg, a German immigrant, in 1863 and became the most productive gold mine in Arizona history. From 1863 to 1942 the mine produced 340,000 ounces (9,638.8 kgs) of gold and 260,000 ounces (7,370.9 kgs) of silver. The town of Wickenburg was named after this influential pioneer.
Historically, the mine is credited with spawning the town that grew up next to the mine named Vulture City. It was a booming mining town with a population of 5000 people and had its own ‘hanging tree’ where nefarious individuals were dealt some western justice. It is operating today as a bona fide ghost town open to guests who want a glimpse of the real old west. It is now privately owned and offers tours of the property and artifacts of the day.
